Why The Evergreens

What if later living could be redefined?

Many older adults want something between living alone and moving into a large institution. The Evergreens is being created for that space: intimate, thoughtfully designed living in a real residential setting.

Our aim is to recreate the familiarity of home while making everyday life more connected, more accessible and less solitary.

What guides us

A real home. A smaller circle. A more personal rhythm.

01

Dignity

Choice, privacy and respect shape the rhythm of everyday life.

02

Connection

A small household makes room for genuine relationships and the comfort of being known.

03

Belonging

A real home within the community—not an institution set apart from it.

04

Purpose

Meaningful days, personal interests and opportunities to contribute naturally.

Evergreen tree with visible interwoven roots

Our founding chapter

La Racine

The name La Racine reflects the roots of an unexpected friendship—one that reinforced the belief at the heart of The Evergreens: meaningful human connection can begin in the most unlikely ways. The pilot is designed to remain intentionally small, welcoming no more than five residents.

An identity taking shape

Rooted here. Designed to belong.

The rooted evergreen, local sunset and garden colour bring La Racine’s story together—on the property and out in the community.

50%greater likelihood of survival associated with stronger social relationships

Why connection matters

Connection belongs in the conversation about healthy aging.

A landmark meta-analysis covering 148 studies and 308,849 participants found that people with stronger social relationships had a 50% greater likelihood of survival than those with weaker relationships.

This broad evidence supports the importance of human connection; it does not prove that any particular housing model extends life.

Thoughtful at every scale

Designed around people, not systems.

La Racine is envisioned as residential lifestyle living—not a nursing home or institutional care setting. Residents remain responsible for their own healthcare decisions. When regulated services are needed, residents and families arrange them with qualified outside providers.

“Not simply a place to live, but a place to belong.”

OF CARE

About us

Experience shaped the vision.

The Evergreens is grounded in decades of hands-on experience supporting older adults, caregivers and families—and informed by ongoing engagement with communities and aging-sector leaders in Ontario and British Columbia.

That experience revealed a space between living alone and institutional care—a need for greater connection and day-to-day support without losing the comfort, autonomy and human scale of home. The Evergreens is our response: a fresh, small-scale and relationship-centred residential model that complements existing community and healthcare services. It is a new formula for living well, designed around people rather than systems.

A Canadian vision

Prove the model. Learn carefully. Grow through more small homes.

La Racine is the pilot: a deliberately small home for no more than five residents. Its resident experience, operations and outcomes can be studied before future homes are considered.

Eastern Ontario

Eastern Ontario is home to La Racine—the founding chapter from which The Evergreens vision began.

02

A future cross-provincial phase

A future cross-provincial phase may include another Ontario home and a British Columbia location—each adapted to local rules while preserving the intimate character of the model.

The groundwork is underway

Help us grow something meaningful.

We welcome early conversations with future residents and families, community partners, advisors and supporters who believe older adults deserve more personal choices.
